Senior Systems Engineer – Dimensional Metrology & GD&T

Are you the person others turn to when a GD&T requirement gets complicated? Do you enjoy digging into challenging measurement problems, understanding what engineering really means, and turning that knowledge into solutions people can actually use?

We are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer with strong expertise in dimensional metrology and GD&T who wants to take that knowledge beyond individual measurements and applications. You’ll help shape the next generation of Mitutoyo metrology solutions by connecting measurement science, real-world customer needs, and software development.

THE COOL THINGS YOU WILL BE DOING WITH YOUR TALENTS

You’ll tackle some of the most interesting technical questions in dimensional metrology. How should a complex GD&T requirement be interpreted? What is the right way to evaluate it? Why can two measurement methods produce different results? And, importantly, how do we turn the right answer into software that engineers and manufacturers can trust?

You’ll work side by side with stakeholders, software developers, and engineering teams to turn and develop deep metrology knowledge into real products. You’ll help define how advanced GD&T functions should work, translate customer and engineering needs into software requirements and workflows, and develop validation approaches that demonstrate our solutions are technically correct, consistent, and explainable.

This is also an opportunity to have an impact beyond a single product or project. You’ll collaborate with Mitutoyo experts in Japan, Europe, and North America, follow developments in ASME and ISO standards, help align technical approaches across our organization, and share your expertise through technical guidance, training, and mentoring.

In short, you’ll help bridge the world of measurement science and software, making advanced metrology knowledge useful to the engineers and manufacturers who depend on it.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

We are looking for someone who has built substantial expertise in dimensional metrology and GD&T, particularly ASME Y14.5, with good familiarity with relevant ISO GPS standards. You understand not just what the standards say, but how geometrical tolerances, datum systems, measurement methods, fitting techniques, uncertainty, and manufacturing realities come together when solving a real measurement problem.

You enjoy difficult technical problems and are comfortable going deep into the details, but you can also step back and explain a complicated concept clearly. You can work with software developers and product teams to turn engineering knowledge and customer requirements into practical functionality.

Experience with metrology software, CMMs, CAD-based inspection, MBD/PMI, optical or scanning technologies, or standards such as QIF, DMIS, and STEP AP242 will give you an edge. Experience contributing to standards activities, technical publications, engineering software development, or algorithm validation is also valuable.

Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who is curious, collaborative, and excited to use deep technical knowledge to influence the future of dimensional metrology.
